2022 Fall online meeting of BRICS NU International Thematic Group on Energy was held on MPEI Cisco Webex platform on November 02, 2022. The meeting was arranged by National Research University “Moscow Power Engineering Institute”, Russia. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Igor. Zhelbakov. The following BRICS NU coordinators took part in the ITG Energy meeting:

  • Prof. Igor. Zhelbakov and Dr. Shirinskii, National Research University “Moscow Power Engineering Institute”, Russia
  • Prof. Anna Popkova, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia
  • Prof. Irina Obukhova, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (National Research University), Russia
  • Prof. Yonghui Sun, Hohai University, China
  • Prof. Rajiv O. Dusane, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India
  • Prof. Richard Stephan, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • Prof. Sachin Gunthe, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India

1. Prof. Sachin Gunthe presented the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, which joined BRICS Network University in the field of Energy in 2021. One of the most interesting thing among various cooperation projects if IIT Madras is a number of Joint Supervision Programs. This form of cooperation should be discussed additionally at one of the next meetings.

2. Prof. Rajiv O. Dusane informs that the date for submission of research proposal within the framework of Indo-Russian Science and Technology Cooperation is extended to 14th November, 2022. For more details please visit the below link https://dst.gov.in/sites/default/files/DST-MSHE%20call%202022.pdf. Contact person pratibha.ydv@iitb.ac.in.

3. At May online meeting, we decided to exchange information about research fields and professors who are ready to accept foreign interns. To enhance that exchange the ITG energy web site (http://itgenergy.mpei.ru/) now includes a field “Departments” for each partner university within the list of participants. It has complete information about departments of National Research University “Moscow Power Engineering Institute” as an example (http://itgenergy.mpei.ru/Pages/departments.aspx). The information contains MPEI structure (Institutes and Departments) with links to web-pages describing each department in English language and contact details of head of the department.

MPEI invites all partner universities to provide information about departments and research fields in the same manner by completing Data collection form. The data collection form will be sent to all ITG Energy university coordinators. MPEI will place this information at the ITG Energy web site and make it available to all partners.

4. Prof. Rajiv O. Dusane reminds to organize online conference for researchers and PhD students. Prof. Igor. Zhelbakov suggests to use available opportunities. For example, in March 2023 MPEI will organize the 5th International Youth Conference on Radio Electronics, Electrical and Power Engineering, which has a large number of sections in various fields. This conference is technically co-sponsored by IEEE Industry Applications Society (IEEE IAS). Accepted and presented papers will be submitted to the IEEE Xplore, then will also be indexed by Scopus.

The Call for papers is send to all ITG Energy university coordinators. After registering a number of papers from ITG Energy universities, we may ask for a separate section within this conference to be held online in appropriate time slot.

5. Prof. Sachin Gunthe asked about financial support for BRICS NU exchange mobility. At present, while there is no special fund for this purpose, we can use domestic resources aimed at international students support. For example, in Russia there is national state scholarship for incoming foreign students, including PhD students. Chinese Scholarship Council provides support for both foreign students and Chinese students studying abroad. Usually such scholarships are provided for full-scale studies, but in some cases, it could be used for academic mobility support.

6. The ITG web site (http://itgenergy.mpei.ru/) contains some information about partner universities, which take part in communication, and coordinators from these universities. Now it’s time to add the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India. So we ask prof. Richard Stephan and prof. Sachin Gunthe to provide MPEI with some information about the university, including links to web page in English.
